What Does "Copyfight" Mean?

The European Union is seeking to extend copyrights? Where did you hear that? It does not follow from the Wired article. Last thing I heard was that the European Commission felt that "At this stage, therefore, time does not appear to be ripe for a change [in duration of recording rights, BC], and developments in the market should be further monitored and studied."

OK, bad case of foot in mouth here: what you wrote DOES follow from the Wired article. However, I still think I may be right on the other counts, because I am having trouble finding corroboration of the Wired article.
Wired is talking about copyrights. Peer to Peer mentions recording rights. Even they mention longer copyrights (i.e. the right on the work, not the one on the performance), but base that on the same clueless article in the Scotsman that everybody seems to be quoting.
Does anyone know what is going on here? Could EFF Europe perhaps try and find out? I need to go and buy new clothes now, so I do not have the time. :-)

You're right, Branko - I painted broad strokes. I'll mend the post accordingly (and talk to Danny to confirm details).
