Creating a Hollywood wish-list DRM system for Vista is the first step in Microsoft's standard approach for taking over a market, which is to control the standards and the platform using its monopoly power.
Microsoft already has an effective monopoly on the consumer PC operating system so they have no real reason to need to cater to Hollywood except to lure Hollywood into bed with Microsoft. Of course Microsoft also has a history of annexing new markets (Lebensraum?), so Hollywood executives really shouldn't over estimate their own importance, since Microsoft is worth more than any Hollywood studio.
